Opera length strand of graduated, faceted, cherry amber bakelite beads.
Vintage necklace dates to the 1920's - 30's era.
Fabulous example of an art deco cherry amber bakelite necklace. Features graduating beads with very large sized beads in the center, the biggest measuring 1" or 27.3 mm x 21.3 mm. What makes this one stand out besides the size of the beads is the weight - approx. 65 grams, and the opera length which measures 35.5" long. A bit longer than most you see. This piece has more large beads at the center than I’ve seen before also. The beads are stunning with the qualities that are highly prized in cherry amber bakelite which include glorious rich color and a brilliant translucency in various lighting conditions. The faceted surfaces beautifully accentuate the rich finish of the bakelite, the beads seem to glow, reflecting the intensity of the color into radiant red prisms of light.
Beads test positive to bakelite and are in excellent vintage condition. They are all ovals with no chips, cracks, repairs or damage noted. All original with working matching screw barrel clasp, however it needed to be restrung for safe wearing.
It is easy to see why these stunning beads are so sought after.
