Vintage rare Venetian Murano Glass Millefiore Necklace And Earrings Set.
This type of glass work is also known as Murrine, and is one of the best-known and highly sought after techniques of Murano glass making. It stands for "a thousand flowers" in Italian, and indeed, the end result of this painstaking work often reminds one of whimsical flowers showing off their beautiful colors. Looking at the amazing Murano glass pieces made made using this technique is just mind boggling! Venetian glass artisans understood conceptually that ancient Roman items have been created using glass rods shaped in various patterns and then cut up and fused together. However, it was not so easy to work out a precise technique for creating these types of glassware, for this required persistent and passionate research by trial and error.
The glass beads seen in this set are exquisite! Soft blue flowers with semi transparent as well as transparent areas of white "petals" flowing around each blossom make these beads simply amazing. Matching clip on earrings complete the look. Filigree brass flower bead caps are places on each end of the larger beads. All are strung on silk and hand knotted in between.
All beads are excellent, no issues to point out. The necklace has been re-strung so it now can be safely worn.
Earrings have brass metal backs and clip mechanisms and are stamped Italy on the back.
