Stunningly unique, this 3 dimensional, hand carved, wood cameo is simply gorgeous! Amazing, high relief, intricately detailed carving, is beautifully polished. Chunky, thick, yet very elegant, it portrays a front view of Victorian era lady with long, flowing, curly hair which frames her face and falls over her shoulders. The carving is high quality with facial features that are fine and well defined. The carved area is super dimensional and continues onto a wide, thick base. Looks like one piece but I'm not sure if the cameo itself has been carved separately and then applied to the bottom area. When I bought this piece it was originally a brooch where the pin back was not original to the piece. I removed it, smoothed the back where the pin back was, and added the elegant, dark metal, calla lily finding you see now. The bail is a vintage brass one which now has a dark patina. I then added the beaded necklace. The beads are faceted, all one size, in a fabulous aurora borealis rich topaz brown shade picking up midnight purple blue colors as well. It is quite long. I also added the vintage hook clasp. Altogether it is a lovely example of how fabulous two different time period jewelry pieces can compliment each other to make a spectacular look!
All is inxcellent vintage condition. The close up photos show what seems to be tiny white specks in the wood. Don't know how this is because when viewing the wood normally and even up close you don't see this at all. Another mystery, lol!
