Whimsical and fun this is an early Miriam Haskell brooch featuring very pale green plastic leaves & raspberry red sugar beads. The beads dangle down from red braided silk cord in clusters. There are six dropping dangles altogether with eight beads per section. A delicate plastic leaf drops from the bottom of each bead cluster. The top of the pin has another larger cluster of sugar beads with plastic leaves tucked behind them, all of which are hand wired onto a pierced celluloid back.
One of the whimsical and rare WWII era unsigned pins with the beads dangling down from braided silk in different lengths, and with the cords attached to the pierced round celluloid back. This backing is a distinct component which was used at the time and is pictured in the book "Miriam Haskell Jewelry"
This brooch is extra long measuring approx. 4-1/2"in length and approx. 2 1/4" wide.
I am rating it in very good vintage condition for its age and fragile components. Several of the red berries show some missing "sugar" bead coating and 3 of the berries show some darkened sugar coated beads. Because the composition beneath the red showed very white where the missing sugars were I touched up those white areas with matching red paint so you don't notice this. I added magnified photos of this, please view them for best description. The celluloid back, silk cords and plastic leaves are in excellent vintage condition.
The color and design of this piece reminds me of yummy summer berries, actually...summertime to be sure! If you collect this type of Haskell jewelry and love the whimsical this is sure to be a favorite in your collection
