Gorgeous and large this hand painted antique Nippon vase dates to the early 1900's. The subject is thistles, a favorite of mine when I was painting porcelain myself. These are the focal point with a softly painted country road scene behind them. The top of the vase features raised enamel beading which has then been been painted with 24k gold, a very tedious and painstaking process which is fired on as well. I know first hand being a porcelain artist, I did raised enamel work early on in my training and it is something I did not do all that much after learning the process, lol~The handles are beautiful, finished with fired on gold which has been burnished to give them a rich look. The entire piece has the design trailing all around it and it is completely hand painted. The Nippon stamp is reddish pink in color, fired onto the bottom/of the vase. It is marked hand painted Nippon with the initials TS in a diamond shape in the center. This is an authentic vintage piece estate piece which I've had for a very long time. (I like to collect raised enamel pieces myself). It is in very good to excellent vintage condition , I will note some of the gold on the handles has worn off but this is not uncommon it these 80-100 year old pieces and it is still a beautiful vase nonetheless. Measuring 11~1/2" high x approx. 6" across at the handles this will make a wonderful addition to the antique Nippon collection.
