The earliest cult images of Dionysus (Greek), Bacchus (Roman) show a mature male, bearded and robed. He holds a fennel staff, tipped with a pine-cone and known as a thyrsus. Later images show him as a beardless, sensuous, naked or half-naked androgynous youth: the literature describes him as womanly or "man-womanish".

Beautiful  Cameo of BACCHUS with the RAM

The setting is 10kt gold, not marked but tested

Measures 1~13/16" (just over 1~3/4" long x 1~1/2"  across.

He has leaves and grapes in his hair and the ram head on his shoulder.
Older C clasp and clasp construction dates it to the late 19th Century
Constructed with the pin back built into the frame, beautifully done

Artist signed, please view photo of signature which is very faint and was difficult to show in a photo

Beautiful antique condition.
There is a small hole in the frame. I believe this is where someone tested it for gold. There is a very faint stress line seen at the back. Again, very faint, not visible when looking at the front view of the cameo and seen from the back only if looking at it holding it up to a light source (see photo)
