This rare, vintage, large, signed, DeNicola brooch is designed in a head of a lion. Flowing gold tassels made with herringbone chains and gold beads make up the lower part of the lion's mane. He is holding a big. white, milk glass, cabochon in his mouth and he has green rhinestones for his eyes. The metal is gold plated with nice detail work which includes embossing, bright and brushed gold finishes, and high quality, 3 dimensional, construction. The back is beautiful as well with quality open work metal which looks like filigree metal though heavier
DeNicola was made from 1957 to 1970 and pieces from this company are not as abundant as with other designer jewelry. This lion head dates to the 1960's is quite rare - I have not had it before and not many are found on the internet. A wonderful collector's piece as well as a striking brooch which looks fabulous on!
