GORGEOUS JEWELED CICADA NECKLACE PENDANT
Ellen Originals
One of my more....unusual designs. Features a real Cicada which was found on my deck one summer. Of course he had lived out his short life naturally so please be assured that I did NOT do him in to create this necklace, lol~
These cicadas show up every summer and I noticed how beautiful their wings are. So while removing this little guy (or gal) from my deck I decided to incorporate him into a piece of jewelry. Kind of like the ancient Egyptians with the scarab.
Sooooo here it is, a very regal jeweled Cicada!
He (she) is now on large, round, vintage, mother of pearl and brass pendant which fits him to a T. The MOP is meticulously inlaid and makes an iridescent background which picks up the iridescence of the wings. The stones are mostly vintage, the new stones are the tiny rhinestones in the head area and the tiny ones seen along the edge of each wing. The glass pearls, large, oval, flat back, crystal stones, diamond shaped rhinestones, and large, intricately cut, purple glass stones, are vintage. He is ornate in purples, yellow golden topaz and green colors along with the pearls. I found and purchased the most beautiful baroque keshi pearls. These are gorgeous, nice and large, between 15-18 mm, with a hint of blush pink to them giving them a creamy pink iridescence. Tiny smoke crystal beads and midnight purple carnival glass beads are used as accents as well. The clasp is an antiqued bronze toned toggle which looks great with the metal in the pendant.
The necklace measures 17" long. The pendant measures approx. 2~1/2" in diameter and has my Ellen Original cartouche on the back of it. If you love pearls, cicadas and wildly unique, avant-garde as well as jeweled insects this is for you!
