What to do with an absolutely gorgeous piece of authentic art deco period intaglio cut glass? A very large piece?? I ran into this in my travels and it is stunning. Soooo, I had to design a necklace around it. Had to make earrings too. It is just too beautiful not to have the earrings to match. So here are the specifics. The art deco intaglio glass has two figures reverse etched in the under side of it. A graceful Grecian or perhaps Roman Goddess who is holding an arrow. It seems that it is Cupid's arrow because the other figure is a young boyish angel who is holding a bow. No arrow, just the bow. So I have determined this is Cupid who has shot an arrow at the lady or Goddess who seems to have caught it in her hand. Pretty nifty for just a regular gal, so that is the reason she must be special. A Goddess. Maybe Diana??? Your thoughts on this will be very welcome here, lol! Anyway, to continue, I bought these big, awesome, abstract, cut and polished clear (very, very clear) icy glass beads and made this necklace around the lovely and very old intaglio. How is is attached to the glass you ask? I had these deco era filigree brass findings, also from my travels, and applied them to the glass. To be sure, you need to know these are very securely applied to the glass, they will NOT come off. Really. I then strung it all together. Since I have some clear crystal beads, (also from the 1930's era) I felt compelled to add them to this necklace. These are gorgeous also. Extra facet work on them makes them even more special. I added them so they drop from the bottom of the centerpiece and I also added some at the back of the necklace. The clasp is an old spring ring design which holds the necklace securely. The matching earrings are for pierced ears, if you need clips just let me know so I can change them for you. This is much more beautiful than my pics show. I will revise it with better photos as soon as I can. The necklace measures 18" long and has my Ellen original sterling silver hang tag. The intaglio piece measures 3~1/2" long (this includes the crystal drops) and it is not quite 2" wide at the top. (1~7/8" approximately) The earrings measure 2~1/2" long x approx. 6/8" wide. You will simply look divine when wearing this.
