A rare Joseph Balda design (who is better known for his Heisey Designs)
The Goblet measures 5.50" tall and 3.25" across the top of the rim and a 2.25" square black base and clear etched optic paneled bowl
Beautiful condition, it is free of chips, cracks, and nicks. The black base has a starburst on the inside of the base. I have 3 of these.
Design is of a winged dog like creature which I was so interested in that I spent a lot of time researching it and this is what I found:
It looks to be an Enfield
The Enfield is a mythical Irish creature, specifically an Irish chimera. It is described as having the head of a fox, the body of an eagle, and the hindquarters of a wolf. Some variations also include the body of a greyhound or lion. Enfields are believed to be guardians of leaders or chieftains who were slain in battle.
Head: Fox
Body: Eagle or sometimes Greyhounds or Lion
Forelegs: Eagle
Hindquarters: Wolf
Tail: Wolf
