Famille Rose
Vivid colors featuring exotic flowers and leaves make this gorgeous plate pop! A vintage piece, I am thinking 1910 - 1020's, it features a stunning floral theme with a huge, pink, wild peony bloom, in the center. A peacock at the top is holding sprigs with pink buds in his beak. Raised enamel has been fired onto the largest flower centers. You can feel it when skimming your hand/ fingers across the painted area of the plate. Giant, intensely unique, wild looking, giant leaves, complete this fabulous, avant garde, look. Cut outs all along the raised border area add interest to the already dramatic design.
Marks: Four letter red chinese mark
The letter B, incised and glazed over
Very good vintage condition. There are holes drilled on the back to be able to hang the plate which was done when originally fired. A small flaw is noted at the top left border where it was most likely created in the first firing of the porcelain. It was painted over in the glaze firing, then the darker border line paint was the added lastly during the lower temperature china paint firings. (hey, I'm a porcelain artist so I know, lol!)
