Product Description

This antique Nippon decorative bowl features hand painted leaves and fruit pods (I don't know the variety presented here) with a flower or opened empty pod.  Ethereal, dreamy, with colors that are rich with deep brown tones and shades of green, the darkest being a black green color which makes the lighter colors pop out. A reddish orange color used on one of the pods. The main cluster of pods, berries and leaves is done with the moriage technique.

It is difficult to show in the photo but the edges of the leaves, pods, and open seed pod have the thick painted texture, you can feel it when you run your fingers over that area. I did take a close-up of this if you look closely you will see it. The background is all hand painted as well. Impressionistic paintings of trees surrounding a lake, softly painted in shades of brown and gray set off by a cream colored back ground which has a hint of yellow to it.

A lovely work of art, you can feel the misty Autumn day, puts one in a mood for sure. The outer rim features fired on raised enamel all around the top edge of the bowl. Applied very skillfully, it's another detail often seen in antique Japanese hand painted porcelain. The bowl is octagonal in shape with turned out handles.

It measures just a bit over 8~3/4" from handle to handle and is approx. 7~5/8" top to bottom. It stands approx. 3~1/4" tall, stands 3~1/2" tall at the handles. It is in excellent vintage condition with no problems at all.

This will make a wonderful addition to your antique Nippon collection and will fit in gracefully with any decor.
