Chalcedony is the form of Quartz that is compact and microcrystalline. It occurs in many different forms, colors, and patterns, and many varieties have been used as gemstones since antiquity.
Georgian to early Victorian age this lovely brooch is a rare find. Most likely a mourning brooch it features a soothing grayish blue chalcedony center stone which is surrounded with two rows/layers of extremely tiny genuine pearls. Deep purplish black enamel is striking against the gold filled setting which features fleur de lis and scroll designs.
Early C clasp closure
Very good antique condition with slight fading to the gold filled finish and very light wear seen on a very slim edge if looking with a loupe
Measures 1~6/8" across x 1~1/2" long
Has been very gently cleaned and polished
