Vintage Austrian brooch made with a large, molded/poured, glass pear set in black japanned metal.
Marked Austria on the back, this is a unique, whimsical, fruit themed jewelry pin. These were produced in the 1940s/1950s and featured various glass fruits which included cherries, raspberries, lemons, apples, pears and more. Mostly seen with 2 fruits, this is one of the more rare, and much larger, single fruit design. Very distinct, very desirable, a collection of these is fabulous when displayed all together!
The pear looks mostly yellow but actually shows a very subtle peachy pink tone at the top. This shows up nicely in the enlarged photo. It also picks up a pale green shade which may be due to the two glass leaves that are draped at the top of the brooch. But the yellow color is intense as it seems to glow from inside. Simply lovely as it catches the light, making a striking contrast with the green faceted glass leaves.
